When attacking, aim for the sides and rear

The basic attack power of the FAMAS is 20, but as the photo below shows, attacking from behind raises the power to 30.

Attack power depends on the relative positions of you and your opponent. When you attack from the enemy's rear, the attack power is 1.5 times greater than normal. When you attack from the side, attack power is 1.2 times greater. Moreover, attacking a target from a higher position makes the attack power 1.5 times greater. If the attack is also from the sides or rear, the total attack power can be as much as 2.25 times greater than normal.

Thus, the attack power of your currently equipped weapon changes depending on your position relative to the enemy. The same rules apply when the enemy attacks you. If you don't plan your moves accordingly, you could find yourself in a vulnerable position relative to your opponent. Keep that in mind - it'll serve you well.

When surrounded, use grenade-type weapons to break out

Grenade-type weapons explode a fixed amount of cost after you use them.
No doubt some people think grenades are kind of useless, because enemies can take advantage of the delay before the explosion to get out of the way. But when you use a grenade-type weapon in conjunction with a firearm, like the FAMAS or the SOCOM, the results can be truly spectacular.

Say you've been spotted by the enemy, and they've got you surrounded. Throw a grenade into the middle of the crowd, so that it will hurt as many enemies as possible.

Next, equip a gun and shoot the grenade you just threw.

3    4

This way, you can make the grenade explode right away, and take out the whole crowd in one fell swoop, before they can escape.

5    6

When you use the M15 Grenade, enemies will be set on fire and take damage continuously, even if they don't die in the blast.

Using a stun grenade allows you to break free without killing any enemies. When surrounded by patrol-bots, a chaff grenade does the same trick.

Depending on how far away other enemies are, explosions from grenades and other weapons may trigger Alert Phase. This isn't counted in your "Times Spotted" in the Mission Results, however, so feel free to use it to your advantage.

Use your cards to set traps

The basic idea behind the Metal Gear series is to sneak past the enemy without being seen. However, sometimes you're faced with a situation where combat is the only option. Metal Gear Acid is no exception. In these cases, you can fight the hard way if you want, but usually you'll find yourself overwhelmingly outnumbered and outgunned. There are a number of ways to get out of these scrapes. Here's one: anticipate (or manipulate) the enemy's moves and set a trap for him.

First, lay a Claymore mine.
Here, it's important to set the mine someplace where the enemy is sure to pass.

1    2

Next, throw a grenade at the spot where the enemy is going to fall when the mine is triggered.

3    4

The trap is now complete. All that's left is to lure the enemy to the place where the mine is set. To lure the enemy, move to a spot where the enemy's attacks can't hit you. This will cause him to chase after you. Then, without warning...

5    6

The Claymore goes off, and the enemy is blown away!
And the grenade is there, waiting for him...

7    8

Because the enemy already used up his cost, he can't move anymore.
At this point, there's no way for him to escape from the grenade's blast.

Thus, by avoiding the enemy’s attacks, setting traps, and chipping away at their strength little by little, it’s possible to get out of a tight spot without even a scratch.

There are about 200 different types of cards in MGA, with a wide variety of effects. Master these cards and you’ll be able to set all kinds of traps.

Devising your own traps, and seeing if you can get enemies to fall for them is an extremely fun way to play the game. This is just one of the unique features that makes Metal Gear Acid a great addition to the Metal Gear series.
