On Saturday 25th April, 32 of the best PES 2015 players in the UK & Ireland arrived at Old Trafford Stadium; the prestigious venue that was set to house the regional Finals in order to determine who would be crowned the UK & Ireland Champion. There was some brilliant skill on display… but there could only be one winner. Keep reading to find out who won and, in turn, who will be representing the UK & Ireland at The World Finals in Berlin.

Group Stage

The Group Stage would see the top four players from each group of eight go through to the next round.

Group 1: iPlod and Dreamonuk both took a very respectable total of 15 points in Group 1, with RAF—10 and garysedd also doing enough in the group to qualify for the next round, with 10 points each.

Group 2: Former champion bad_boy_g_2011 netted 5 wins and 2 draws to earn 17 points and first place in his group, whilst unbeatable_786 lived up to his name with 4 wins and 3 draws, ensuring qualification also. Aluciu and Yingnan_David completed Group 2’s lineup of four qualifiers.

Group 3: A hugely impressive display from claudelu saw him win a perfect 7 games out of 7 – a feat achieved by nobody else on the day. No1Pirate did well with 15 points to take second, with ayzee88 and PieRzu89-PL picking up 13 and 11 points respectively to qualify.

Group 4: BELIEVE_IN_UTD topped a tightly-fought Group 4 with 15 points, PES 2014 UK Champion DexK taking second place with 13. ProEvoArek and Osiris took third and fourth respectively, with Osiris pipping winners1221 to qualification only on goal difference!

Last 16

The Last 16 would see players enter a straight knock-out system. There were goals galore, with many players finding the back of the net 6 or 7 times over the two legs played. In the end though, just eight victorious players made it through to the Quarter Finals, and they were:

Quarter Finals

The quality on show was now extremely high, and this round had some very closely-contested games. After two legs, two games – Osiris VS claudelu, and Dreamonuk VS Aluciu – were still level, and required a third 5-minute match to decide the winner. In the end, it was claudelu and Aluciu who broke the deadlock in their favour to secure a Semi-Final place. Former champion DexK meanwhile came from behind to win 7-6, whilst similarly BELIEVE_IN_UTD managed to turn his game around to get through to the final four with some crucial late goals.

Semi-Finals

Another close game saw the still-unbeaten claudelu beat BELIEVE_IN_UTD by just a single goal – after winning the first leg 3-2, claudelu did enough to secure that first Finals spot with a 3-3 second-leg draw. The other game was less close; DexK beat Aluciu in both legs to give an aggregate score of 9-3 to the 2014 UK Champion. Could DexK make it two Finals wins on the trot, or would claudelu take that title from him? It was time to find out!

Final

This was it. In just one last game of PES 2015, the UK & Ireland Champion would be decided. Both players had proven themselves to be immensely talented players during the tournament, but only one would win the title – not to mention a £1000 GAME voucher, a 55″ Curved Samsung TV and that all-important place at the World Finals in Berlin. The stakes were high!

It was DexK that took the initiative from the start, scoring 2 goals without a reply from claudelu by half time. A third goal for DexK around the 50 minute mark seemed to seal victory, although a first goal for claudelu around 10 minutes later seemed to give hope for a comeback. Such a comeback was not meant to be however; DexK‘s tournament experience undoubtedly helped, as he went on to secure a second UK Finals win in a row with a fourth and fifth goal. It was decided: DexK was crowned the UK & Ireland PES 2015 Champion!

Our congratulations goes to DexK, who will go to Berlin to represent the UK & Ireland region in the World Finals. Commiseration to claudelu, who nevertheless leaves with a still-rather-amazing Samsung smartphone and a £500 GAME voucher!
