The "Winning Eleven 2017" Official eSports World Finals:
Two Japanese Players Were Winner and Runner-up at Asia Regional Final!

Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. announces that the Asia Regional Final of the "Winning Eleven 2017" official eSports global tournament, PES LEAGUE ROAD TO CARDIFF*, was held on Sunday, April 23rd at JFA House Japan Soccer Museum. Two players from Japan were crowned winner and runner-up, and they will now advance to the world finals.

Ten winners of preliminary rounds held in countries throughout Asia advanced to the Asian Regional Final. After an intense series of matches, "Mayageka" and "Jou" emerged as the winner and runner-up, respectively, and they will go on to represent Asia at the world finals. Speaking of his enthusiasm going into the finals, winner Mayageka said, "Representing Asia, I’m going to practice even harder to come out on top in the world finals."

Former Japan national soccer team star Tsuyoshi Kitazawa appeared as a guest at the Japan Finalists Championship the day before. Unable to take his eyes off of the players’ intense showdowns, Kitazawa said, “I got the chance to see some live Winning Eleven matches today. It felt like I was watching the real thing. It was really exciting. What’s great about eSports is it’s fun for both the competitors and us spectators." Over half a million viewers watched the competition’s high-level play online, with the competition also showcasing the excitement and charm of Winning Eleven to newcomers around the world.

The two Asia representatives will join the four Europe representatives who came out on top in the Barcelona final, as well as four Americas representatives from the upcoming Buenos Aires final, and four additional Europe representatives from the upcoming Liverpool final. All will compete in the world finals in Cardiff, Wales this June, held alongside the UEFA Champions League Final. This competition will also be broadcast live online, so be sure to tune in to see the highest-level of play from anywhere in the world.

    PES LEAGUE ROAD TO CARDIFF is a global eSports tournament to decide the number one player of "Winning Eleven 2017," and is officially recognized by UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations. The competition began in 2001 in Europe, but later expanded into a global championship and is now in its 17th year. This year's competition consists of national and regional qualifying rounds, followed by the world championship in Cardiff, Wales in June, alongside the UEFA Champions League Final. There, the top 16 players from around the world will battle it out for a grand prize of 23,000,000 yen (USD200,000, calculated at 115 yen per dollar).
