Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. is proud to announce that "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN" received the Award for Excellence in the Computer Entertainment Software Association’s (CESA) Japan Game Awards 2016: Games of the Year Division*1. This award is given to outstanding computer entertainment software titles released during the 2015 fiscal year.
The Japan Game Awards selects and acknowledges outstanding computer entertainment software regardless of platform, be it console, computer, or mobile, based on principles of openness, impartiality, and fairness. The awards were started in 1996 by CESA to help grow the computer entertainment software industry and increase social recognition of it. The awards of the Games of the Year Division are decided by the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee in addition to the results of popular vote by players.
Having sold over 49.6 million copies worldwide (as of end of June 2016), the METAL GEAR series of video games features anti-war and anti-nuclear armament themes, and founded the stealth game genre with its gameplay style of having the main characters avoid combat as they infiltrate enemy territory on solo missions. Since the release of the original "METAL GEAR" in 1987, the series' engrossing story and cinematic presentation have led to high acclaim both domestically and overseas. The latest installment, "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN," was released in September 2015. Its story reveals the greatest mystery of the epic METAL GEAR saga, and its game design has been praised for the unparalleled freedom it offers players as they undertake realistic infiltration missions across a vast open world.
2014’s "METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES" and "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN" will be available from Thursday, November 10 in a compilation titled "METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES ＋ THE PHANTOM PAIN."
ONAMI will continue to develop and publish titles in the METAL GEAR series, to provide its consumer base with new and exciting game experiences.
